Being An Entrepreneur: It’s All In The Mind

There is an awful lot of content out there for an entrepreneur to study that addresses the starting and running of a successful business. As an entrepreneur you’re well aware of the need for creating and developing products and services, systems and processes, partnerships and a great environment to support your employees in doing their best work.

Unfortunately what gets overlooked most of the time is the most critical component of any successful endeavor… you. More importantly, how you think feel and behave. There is no getting around the fact that your business is a reflection of you.

Anyone can start up a business, but it takes vision to create a business that has a compelling story and inspiring message for those it serves. This vision must be crystal clear and at the forefront of the entrepreneur’s mind. Your thoughts are the wellspring of any reality in your external world.

A great self-development book, and tool for the entrepreneur’s mind, is one titled “As A Man Thinketh”, by James Allen. The concept is that your external reality and results can be traced back to the thoughts, pictures and emotions that you focus most of your energy on throughout your life.

If this is true then building a vision of positive, empowering and inspiring outcomes is what you should be training your mind to do for you. This would also mean that you have far more control over shaping your destiny than you thought you had.

Self Belief

You need to have a strong belief in your abilities. This doesn’t mean that you have to think you know everything! Of course you will have current skills that you can leverage in building a business. Leveraging the resources you have available is an entrepreneur’s way of amplifying their reach and impact. Self belief also means knowing you have the capacity, if you don’t have a particular skill, of learning that skill.

All great entrepreneurs display a belief in their vision and their ability to lead their team in achieving their goals. Without self belief you will find yourself often pulled off course by the agendas of others. Self doubt and hesitancy will become your trademarks. To achieve your great compelling vision there is no room for doubt.

Please, don’t confuse confidence with arrogance. Confidence in your decision-making and your ability to lead will build loyalty within your team. People will not follow a leader who is confused or displaying a lack of confidence in their own vision.

Arrogance, on the other hand, creates hurt feelings and passive aggression, or outright mutiny! And arrogant person will stifle input and make decisions in isolation. A confident person does not feel threatened by their employees suggestions. On the contrary, they know that this leverages their own thinking and provides a better quality outcome.

Surround yourself with bright capable people and provide the direction and systems they need to excel. This article outlines the rewards of harnessing your teams hearts and minds.

Most critical thing an entrepreneur needs to work on is their mindset. Study any great entrepreneur you will find one thing in common – their unshakeable faith in their vision how strong focused mind. Success in any endeavor, whether it be sport or business, relies on the “mind game”.  You see this truth played out time and time again. In many cases it is not a person’s education or  intelligence that wins the day. It’s their mental toughness, resilience and flexibility that delivers up successful to them.

So how important do you think mindset is when it comes to being successful? Please share your thoughts by leaving a comment.
